Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work – A Qualsafe Award

Course Overview
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work, a Qualsafe Award, equips learners with the practical knowledge and skills needed to respond effectively in a range of workplace emergency first aid situations. Learners will develop the competence to deliver safe, prompt, and effective first aid, with an understanding of the responsibilities and role of an emergency first aider. The qualification follows the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) training standards and the recommendations of the Resuscitation Council (UK) and leading emergency care experts.

Intended Audience
This course is designed for individuals with a specific responsibility at work or in voluntary and community roles to provide first aid in emergency situations, including:

  • Workplace first aiders
  • Office and site managers with first aid responsibilities
  • Voluntary or community workers
  • Anyone required to respond to emergencies in the workplace

Topics Covered
Learners will engage in both theoretical and practical learning, including:

  • Assessing and managing emergency first aid situations
  • CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) use
  • Recovery position and airway management
  • Managing bleeding, shock, and minor injuries
  • Recognising and responding to medical emergencies
  • The role and responsibilities of an emergency first aider

Entry Requirements
Learners must be at least 14 years old on the first day of training and able to perform practical tasks at floor level. While no formal academic requirements exist, Level 1 literacy and numeracy or equivalent is strongly recommended. Learners should wear practical clothing and flat footwear to participate safely in hands-on training.

Successful completion of this qualification may support progression to:

Requalification Requirements
This Qualsafe Award is valid for 3 years. Learners must retake the qualification before the certificate expiry date to remain qualified as an emergency first aider.
