Level 3 Award in First Response Emergency Care (FREC3) – 3 Day Requalification
Course Overview
The FREC3 Requalification course is designed for existing FREC3 practitioners who need to renew their qualification and refresh the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond safely, effectively, and confidently in pre-hospital emergency situations. This intensive refresher course reinforces core first response principles, updates learners on current best practice, and strengthens their ability to assess, treat, and manage patients in both emergency and urgent care environments. It ensures learners remain competent, compliant, and prepared to provide high-quality care in dynamic pre-hospital settings.
Intended Audience
This course is specifically designed for learners who already hold a valid FREC3 qualification and need to renew their certification to remain operationally current. It is ideal for existing first responders, event medics, security personnel, ambulance support staff, and those working in roles that require continued competence in pre-hospital emergency care.
Topics Covered
Learners will engage with a wide range of practical and theoretical content, including:
- Patient assessment and scene management
- Airway management and oxygen therapy
- Trauma care (catastrophic bleeding, fractures, burns and more)
- Management of medical emergencies
- Basic life support and automated external defibrillation
- Safe moving and handling
- Recognition and management of major illness and injury
- Optional extended clinical skills (subject to eligibility)
Entry Requirements
- Learners must hold a current FREC3 qualification and complete the 3-day requalification course before their certificate expires.
- Only learners who operate under clinical direction and within a governance framework may be taught and assessed using the FREC®3 Optional Practical Assessment (Extended Skills). An Extended Skills Authorisation Form must be signed by your employer and must be submitted for approval.
Progression
Successful completion of the FREC3 Requalification course allows learners to maintain their FREC3 status and continue progressing within the Qualsafe FREC pathway, including advancement to higher-level qualifications such as FREC4 and FREUC5. Requalifying also supports ongoing professional development for those working toward or currently employed in roles across pre-hospital care, event medical services, ambulance support, Allied Health, Nursing, and Paramedicine.
Requalification Requirements
The FREC3 qualification is valid for 3 years. To maintain certification, learners must complete the 3-day requalification course before their certificate expires, or retake the full FREC3 qualification. Also, FREC3’s are expected to undertake annual Basic Life Support (BLS) refreshers to support ongoing clinical competence. Failure to requalify before expiry means the individual is no longer recognised as a current FREC3 provider.
